It was announced that in 2015 the MCAT exam will have a sociology, biochemistry, and psychology section. Here is a link on it New MCAT
While I understand adding biochemistry and maybe even some psychology, I am firmly against sociology. One administrator in an article I read stated that this will open the door to more english majors becoming doctors and thus increase “doctor diversity”. LIKE THAT IS A GOOD THING. Do you want to english major operating on you?? I will a hard-core science nerd operating on me, the english major can read me some classical literature while I recover.
The other downside is that now the exam will take 6.5 hours, instead of 4 or 5 hours. Exams like this are grueling enough as it is, now it is going to be worse.
The good news is that the changes don’t come into being until 2015, so if there is enough of an uproar they might abandon this madness. I don’t know if it is time to grab your pitchforks and torches and take our mob to the streets, but I think it is coming close.
